VARIGNANO : A popular event that is lost in the mists of time and that certainly remains one of the oldest and most genuine of Upper Garda.
The 2015 edition will also take place on the first Sunday of Lent in Varignano which in ancient times together with Vigne, Chiarano, Padaro and Ceole, formed the municipality of Romarzolo.
A propitiatory feast that originates from the archaic and peasant world rich in spirituality; the spiritual message enclosed in it is however worthy of the church of the first Christians: repentance of sins, the annulment of sins through the purification of the fire, at the same time invoking the help of the divinities for a good harvest.
The long procession of carnivals, pyramid-shaped canopies made of bamboo sticks and laden with decorations, winds along the streets of the village, preceded by children holding the solà gni, laurel sprigs adorned with streamers and colored egg shells , symbol of fertility. While the participants in the procession enjoy "grostoi and mulled wine", the procession reaches the back of the Tiera, where the carnivals are burned in a spectacular stake.
This carnival took part, a few years ago, in the parade of the alpine carnival of S. Michele all'Adige and the typical "Carnival" with the shape of a square-based pyramid was placed in a room of the Museum of Uses and Costumes.
